Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) is a volunteer first responder organization with teams in the Austin, Dallas, and Galveston areas focused on Search and Rescue (SAR), incident response and disaster response. Our units are self-sufficient and do not require financial or logistical support from requesting agencies. All TEXSAR personnel are NIMS compliant and our organization operates under the Incident Command System protocol.

For urgent initial action advice, resource assistance or initial incident action planning please contact Shawn Hohnstreiter. For emergency activation (or business calls): (512) 994-4SAR or (512) 994-4727.

Please contact your local law enforcement agency to report a missing person.

For additional contact information, see our Contact page.

TEXSAR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that expanded from a Ground SAR team to a fully capable, multi-discipline Search & Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, Wildland Fire, and Disaster Response team.  TEXSAR is currently a NIMS Type II Wildland SAR team and is on pace to be a NIMS Type I team by the end of 2015.

All TEXSAR personnel are certified according to State and Federal standards, and we operate solely under the Emergency Management System and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  Our members have extensive Incident Command Systems training and are highly disciplined.

TEXSAR maintains an operational relationship with many SAR and Incident resources around the State of Texas, including the Texas State Guard.  These relationships allow us to deploy highly trained resources quickly in most areas of the state.

THERE IS NEVER A CHARGE FOR OUR SERVICES TO ANY REQUESTING AGENCY.

How We’re Deployed

TEXSAR deploys at the request of Federal Agencies, the Governor, State Agencies, local law enforcement, or relief organizations (e.g. Red Cross). When deployed, we operate strictly using the Incident Command System (ICS). If deployed by local law enforcement we act as a function of that department and answer directly to them. Though we do not perform actual criminal law enforcement duties, we can act as needed in a support role for the department.

Training and Readiness

TEXSAR prides itself as being in a constant state of readiness. This means that we are not only geared up and ready to deploy at a moment’s notice, but we are also continually training and exercising all opportunities to further our education and ability to perform our duties. There is no charge for our services to the requesting Agency.

We also provide emergency preparedness training to many organizations and train Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), which assist their communities during incidents respond to natural and other disasters.
