The Caring Place, a local charity, provides basic needs for families in financial crisis in Georgetown and Williamson County.

For over 30 years, the thrift store at The Caring Place has served as a successful, ongoing fundraising project for our 501c3 organization. The thrift shop has grown and is nowThe Shops at The Caring Place generating approximately 59% of our total revenue ensuring that every dollar donated goes directly to our needy families and that we will be here in the days, months and years ahead.

An efficient team of Caring Place volunteers and employees specialize in turning donations of gently-used, unwanted items from the community into sought-after treasurers. Our volunteers accept donations at an average of about 100 cars per day. Once processed, the donations are moved into the sales area, where each item is displayed within one of four specialty shops. Collectively, the four shops are known as The Shops at The Caring Place.

Hours are Monday thru Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday until 7 p.m.

The Shops At The Caring Place Are:

Fabulous Finds: The general merchandise area of the store

Re-Finds Antiques: A warm, cozy room containing antiques and collectibles

The Boutique: A classy destination which showcases finer clothing and accessories

Outdoors and More: Actually located outdoors, this store contains lawn and garden, sporting equipment, and major appliances.

A pick-up service is available for families who have larger items; a call to John Burton at 512-943-0711 will get you on the schedule.

The Caring Place assists families in the following ways:

*Financial Assistance: Rent, utilities, medical expenses, temporary shelter, transportation, other.

* Non-financial Assistance: Food, clothing and household items.

* Feeding Programs: Fresh Food for Families and Hope

* Annual Programs: Coats for Kids, Thanksgiving and Christmas food distribution.

The success of The Caring Place depends on the dedication and professionalism of our volunteer workforce.  The Caring Place currently has 505 volunteers who gave a total of 50,359 hours of service to their community in 2014.  Our volunteers are a constant reminder of what can be accomplished when we all work together for a common goal of helping others.

The Caring Place has been a valued community resource for a quarter of a century, helping families in need in the community. There are many ways the community can help The Caring Place so we can keep giving to our neighbors in need:

 SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE

If you know of a family needing the programs and services of The Caring Place, please refer them to us.

SHARE YOUR TREASURE

Make a financial contribution, 100% of which will be used to help families. We apply your donation to our most immediate need, or you may specify your preference: (Food Pantry, Holiday Feeding Program, Coats for Kids, Client Service Assistance (rent, utilities, medical expenses, and prescriptions), or other special project.

SHARE YOUR FOOD

The Caring Place provided 803,204 pounds of food through our four feeding programs in 2014. Utilizing the conversion formula provided by the Capital Area Food Bank in Austin of 1.2 pounds of food equaling one meal, The Caring Place provided 669,337 meals to area families in 2014.

Share-Time-ButtonSHARE YOUR TIME AND TALENT

Volunteer with The Caring Place like 452 of your neighbors did last year, providing over 49,850 hours of service to the community – the equivalent of 29 full-time staff members.

SHARE YOUR STUFF

You may drop off your gently used and unwanted items Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These items are turned into cash which covers our operating costs and supports families in need.

SHOP AT OUR STORE

Revenue from the sale of donated merchandise in Fabulous Finds, our thrift store, pays for all of our annual cost of operations. This ensures 100% of any financial donation goes directly to families in need.
